CheckAHome
Privacy policy
How we handle personal information and how to exercise your rights.
CheckAHome is a trading name of HGC PROPERTY DESIGN LTD, registered in England and Wales, company number 16889701. Registered office: Telegraph House, 59 Wolverhampton Road, Stafford, United Kingdom, ST17 4AW. Contact: hello@checkahome.co.uk. We are the controller of personal information used to operate CheckAHome.
1. Information we process
- Property checks: addresses, postcodes and properties you type, select or save, to return the property information you request.
- Location: with your permission, your device’s location to find nearby properties. You can withdraw permission in device settings and use address or postcode search instead.
- Account: name, email and sign-in identifiers provided through Google or Apple sign-in, to authenticate you and associate saved homes with your account.
- Saved homes: report facts such as prices, scores and checks, saved locally and backed up through our backend when you use account backup. Photos stay on your phone and are not uploaded to our servers.
- Purchases: transaction and entitlement information processed through Apple and RevenueCat to provide and restore purchases. We do not receive or store payment-card details.
- Operational records: paid-call logs, cached property responses and necessary technical information to operate and protect the service.
- Support: information you send us when asking for help or exercising your rights.
2. Photos, advertising and analytics
Scan photos remain on your device. Deleting a local saved report removes the photo associated with that report in the app; separate copies you saved elsewhere remain under your control. We do not upload photos as part of property checks or account backups.
We do not use advertising trackers, analytics or social-media tracking SDKs, and do not sell your personal information. Necessary hosting, security and transaction records are distinct from advertising or behavioural analytics.
3. Purposes and lawful bases
- Contract: processing necessary to provide requested checks, authentication, saved-home backup and purchased features.
- Consent: optional location access for nearby-property searches. You can withdraw permission at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
- Legitimate interests: proportionate security, fraud prevention, service reliability and responding to support enquiries. Our interest is in running a safe, functioning service; you can object to processing based on this basis.
- Legal obligation: records and disclosures required for accounting, tax or other legal duties.
4. Providers and data sources
- Cloudflare: backend processing and saved-home backup storage.
- Rork Auth: account authentication, including sign-in with Google or Apple.
- Apple and RevenueCat: payments, purchase verification and entitlement management.
- Property information sources: PropertyData, the EPC register, HM Land Registry, police.uk, postcodes.io, Rightmove, Ofsted and Met Office/DEFRA air data, used as relevant to answer property checks.
Queries use the relevant address, postcode or coordinates, rather than your account name or email where those are unnecessary. A source listed here does not mean every check sends personal information to every source. See sources and credits.
Some providers process information on our instructions; authentication and payment providers also process information for their own purposes under their own privacy notices. We may share information with advisers or authorities where necessary and lawful.
5. Retention and signing out
Saved-home facts are kept until you delete them. Signing out stops account backup; it does not itself request deletion of existing saved homes or the account. Paid-call logs and caches are normally kept for approximately 60 days.
Account information is kept while needed to operate your account, unless you request deletion. We may retain limited transaction or other records where required by accounting, tax or legal obligations, or where necessary to resolve a dispute. We can explain any exception relevant to a deletion request. Local photos remain on your device until the relevant report is deleted.
6. Hosting and international processing
Our providers operate internationally and information may be processed outside the UK. Where a restricted transfer occurs, applicable UK transfer requirements must be met, including an adequacy regulation or appropriate contractual safeguards. Contact us for details of the locations and safeguards applicable to your information; no UK-only storage commitment is made.
7. Your rights and deletion
Subject to the relevant legal conditions, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to processing. You can withdraw consent at any time. Delete saved homes in the app, or email hello@checkahome.co.uk to request account or personal-data deletion. See deletion information.
We may need proportionate identity verification. We normally respond within one month and will explain any legally permitted extension. You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
8. Scores and personalised results
Property scores summarise available property and area information. Personal match results use the preferences you provide. They are information aids, not decisions about eligibility for housing, credit or insurance. See score methodology.
9. Children and security
The app is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their information; contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information. Paid features are intended for adults aged 18 or over.
We use proportionate technical and organisational measures to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Do not send us passwords or card details.
10. Website and policy changes
See our website storage notice. We update this policy when processing changes and communicate material changes appropriately.
